Ice Balls

Oklahoma Photographer

With the crazy weather Oklahoma got this past week, I found a fun way to experiment and have fun with my boys. It was a little to cold to be playing in the snow and they were dying to do something other than virtual learning and running around the house getting in trouble. Also another ear infection hit during the second storm! YEAH US!

Here is our little Ice Ball experiment. I had seen a few posts about other doing this on social media, thought we have to try! We did this Sunday afternoon (Feb. 14th) and they of course are still frozen and in deeper snow!! It will be a few days before all this snow melts. We sure are enjoying the beauty and going to play soon!! ((TODAY))!

All you need is balloons (we used left over ones we had in the party supply box), food coloring, water and a box! Box is VERY IMPORTANT! I was warned that I should expect at least one balloon to pop in the house lol. NO balloon popped, Thank goodnes.

Steps are very easy! I took assorted colored balloons and filled each with 2-3 drops of food coloring. To be more vibrant you can add more drops or even use gel food coloring.

After putting food coloring, I took my balloons to my spare bathroom and attached them to the facet. My kitchen facet was to wide to fit the balloon end on it.

I turned the water on, filled up the balloon until I was comfortable with them not busting lol. My sink is shallow so the balloon rested while filling which helped with the weight of the water.

Turn the facet off, slowly pop the balloon off and tie. Place in a box. bucket.

Last, take the box outside carefully place the balloons in a safe spot. Wait until they freeze. (We let them sit all night).

Once the water is solid, take a knife or scissors and cut the balloon. Then pill it off the ice.

ENJOY!
