Mini Sessions

What is a mini session?

In short, a mini session is essentially an abbreviated standard session. Mini Sessions tend to be only offered at certain locations, dates and times. Once you've signed up for a time slot, you just show up (a little early) for your session. Then, when it's your turn, you simply stand in front of the camera and work it. When your 15-20 minutes is up, the next client steps into the spotlight and you can run off on your merry way. Obviously, a mini session needs to run smoothly and stay on schedule so that every family gets their full time. Plus, nobody likes to be stressed out.

Now, the thing about mini sessions is that a lot of them have themes . I love doing themed mini sessions for holidays or seasons. For example, Christmas minis always have some Christmas feel, colors and etc.

My most favorite route to take the less thematic route and instead offer a series of spring and fall mini sessions in a beautiful location.

Obviously, a mini session needs to run smoothly and stay on schedule so that every family gets their 30 minutes. Plus, nobody likes to be stressed out.

Here are five easy ways you can make sure your mini session goes off without a hitch!

1. Be on time. And by on time, I mean 15 minutes early! Make sure you have everything ready to go, as well. When you're ready to step up as soon as it's your turn it makes a world of difference.

2. Check and read your emails to get the 411 on your mini session theme. Because there are props and that sort of thing, I often give suggestions for colors or clothing to wear to prevent clashing with the background.

3. Make sure your children are well rested and fed. A kiddo with a full belly and plenty of Zzz's in their sleep tank is a kiddo who's happier to be in front of the camera.

4. Dress comfortably. When you (and/or the kids) are in clothes they feel comfortable in, the photos turn out that much better. Try not to wear clothes that constrict or are made from itchy materials. Take it from someone who's been photographing people for years: your discomfort shows!

5. Get excited! This is going to be so much fun, so why not get super pumped about your session? Make a day of planning out what you'll wear and spend a few extra minutes in front of the mirror pampering yourself. Why not?

Mini Session FAQ’s:

How is a mini session different from a standard session?

Well, in addition to the session time being shorter, mini-sessions are customized by me instead of us customizing the session together. Based on the theme, I select the location, theme, props etc

How often do you offer mini sessions?

I offer mini sessions throughout the year. If you subscribe to my e-newsletter or follow Laci James Photography on Facebook and Instagram, you'll be in-the-know for all our upcoming mini-sessions.

How much do you charge for a mini-session?

Each 15-20-minute mini session costs $175. They also include a select number of digital images with the option to upgrade and add to your collection. That's a savings around 40% from a standard session!

How many poses will I get in a mini session?

You'd be surprised at how much you can pack into a 15-20-minute session. Giving you lots to choose from when it comes to prints and products!

Who can sign up for your mini-sessions?

Typically, I open my mini-sessions up to all (families, children, couples, singles and even pets!) But sometimes, some minis are specific to one group.

How soon will I have access to my pictures?

I edit all photos within two to four weeks of your mini-session. I'm sensitive to timing. For example, I schedule my Christmas mini-sessions in mid-November, allowing you plenty of time to look over your photos, order products and mail out cards in a timely manner.

Can I book two mini-session slots in a row?

You likely won't need to, but if the availability is there, I won't say no! Now, if you want to have two different groupings -- say, a family set and then just a set with your kiddos and pooch -- I would actually recommend booking two different mini-sessions.

What kinds of products do you offer?

In addition to gift prints, I offer albums, greeting cards, wall art (canvas and metal prints), and so much more.
