Best ways to preserve or save you images!

After every session I get asked about preserving images or why should I have prints?! Most clients want digital images these days due to the social media world and ease of sharing with family and friends just on their social media pages. BUT honestly this is not safe, not life long or perfect!!

How many family and friends do you know that get hacked, computers malfunction, software or electronics become outdated and so much more? What happens to your stored images?! Can you get them back?

I live in Oklahoma and weather is another factor that my play a part in preserving memories. Tornadoes may blow homes away, fires may destroy all your belonging printed or digital storage devices!!

There are so many factors that can surprise you and your images are gone! Here are a ways to secure you images… not one is 100% but if you can do multiple, there is a higher chance of preserving your images for a lifetime.

**First make sure you review purchasing and downloading process with your photographer!!

  1. Download images from photographers photo sharing link, site … DON”T KEEP LINK IN YOUR EMAIL!

I use Shootproof and Images are ordered directly from my gallery. Physical products such as prints, canvas, and albums. Digital images are purchased and a direct link is emailed to clients. From the email they must open the zipped file and save before gallery expires.

Check out ShootProof HERE : It’s the service I use for client galleries, Mobile Apps, digital contracts and invoicing, email automations, and more. The best part? They take ZERO commissions from my sales, so my business is able to thrive and I’m able to focus on what matters most.

  2. Save directly to computer AND external device. Back up images on an additional external device always!

Hard drives are my go to but some burn on CDs/DVDs (they are now almost completely outdated actually!) or USBS. Clients can purchase custom USB drives directly from me for additional save storage. I use multiple LaCie hard drives!! Not only does it have a awesome name but great products! I also store these in different locations outside my home!! Keeping them save from fire, tornados, and theft!

  3. Online storage. There are free or paid subscriptions and SO MANY out there. One day I may do a blog on this! Personal online storage vs subscription based storage.

  4. PRINT images. These can be used in your home or stored in simple acid free albums or cute photo boxes! This is the best way to prevent digital loss and easy fun access to browse through! I love opening a box of prints from years past!!! We also bring old albums to family get togethers and reunions!!! Nothing is better than flipping through prints with family!

**Think about how old those images are from your great grandparents that are in you closet floor?!! They have lasted a lifetime already!!

  5. Print fun images on specialty products such as canvas, metal or customized albums! Display them around your home to enjoy anytime! They are secure in frames and on walls as well as packed into customized albums!!!

  6. Digitalize your prints with scanner and combine the on hard drives, USBs or combine them into albums!!!
