Newborn Session Prep :: Oklahoma Newborn Photographer
What you need to know before your little bundle of joy’s newborn session!
Congratulations on your new baby! The first few days and weeks are so wonderful, sweet and special. I am blessed to be part of your special time. Here are a few tips to help prepare and make this time less stressful and most enjoyable.
When to Schedule your Newborn session
Contact and inquire with your Newborn Photographer within your second trimester. Discuss the process of booking and get on their schedule.
Newborn session are scheduled within 4-20 days after delivery. If you wait till after delivery, there may not be openings within this time frame. This is not critical but can save you stress and worry booking ahead of time. I pencil in my newborn session around due dates and make adjustments after delivery if needed, NICU stay early deliver etc.
Sessions take place during the week and in the mornings. All my newborns are scheduled during the week around 9-10am start time.
Discuss specific props or items you would like to incorporate. I provide all props for your newborn session but love to incorporate 1-2 personal items to make them more special!
Day of Session
1-2 hours before your session stimulate and keep baby awake before your session. This helps them be sleepy for their session.
Feed your baby 10-15 mins before their session. You can schedule your feedings so that they nurse or take a bottle as soon as you arrive to the studio if you would like. We want them nice and full before so they are extra sleepy.
Dress them in something easy to take off. Zip sleepers are easy to remove and wont startle them causing a fuzzy baby.
Bring entertainment, snacks or additional baby sitter for older siblings. We will do family and siblings first thing then parents and siblings have time to rest and relax for the remaining time. We want to make sure the studio stays calm and quite as well.
Bring any newborn essentials that you may need while you are at the studio. Diapers, wipes, pump, bottles etc. Pacifiers and bottles are encouraged for soothing if using.
Parents, dress in layers! The studio will be warm!
Breaks are part of the process of newborn sessions. I will not be shooting the entire time. Newborns get hungry, need diaper changes and of course mom and dad snuggles for soothing. I try to capture as much as possible during our times but I encourage breaks to make you and babies more comfortable.
